How did people used to track their emotions?
Maybe it was through letters unsent, diary pages folded in two, or the unfinished edge of a painting. These old-world fragments—weathered, heartfelt, and half-hidden—held deep emotional records long before algorithms knew how to read sentiment.
But what if you could now log your feelings the same way you might log rainfall, footsteps, or dreams?
Welcome to MoodMirror, a small tool I’ve coded and launched on Hugging Face. It’s an experiment, a companion, and a way of observing how your mind moves over time.
The New Writing
Over days, the app sketches a calendar of your feelings. A heatmap of you.
Using a Hugging Face sentiment model, the tool gives you a life enjoyment score, a subtle numerical reflection of your thought pattern. Is it perfect? No. But is it revealing? Absolutely.
This project doesn’t just use writing—it is writing. Each input, each mood log, becomes part of a growing poetic pattern. You write a few lines describing your day—perhaps “The rain stuck to my coat longer than I stayed in the room”—and the AI behind the screen listens gently.
Why Track Mood with AI?
Because awareness is power.
Because we often forget how far we’ve come.
Because emotions don’t arrive with timestamps—but now you can give them one.
This is a space to meet yourself—at breakfast, after theatre rehearsals, while eating leftover pumpkin pie. Your moods, like seasons, will shift. Now, you can see that change, and maybe write toward it.

Congrats on coding and launching MoodMirror. In this digital age, digitally logging how we feel is a way to keep track how we feel, and potentially makes it easier for us to look back on where we were at. I like how you wrote the introduction to this post. Very good analogy of records and noting our emotions. I think noting our emotions doesn’t have to be long. Writing something simple and short on how we feel in the moment can itself be quite revealing and leave us with something to reflect on. Here’s to let’s keep writing. Hope you are doing well, Lita 🙂
